The Cocoa Marketing Company (Gh) Limited (CMC) and the Industrial and Commercial Workers' Union (ICU) Ghana have successfully signed their maiden Collective Agreement at Cocoa House in Accra. The agreement covers senior staff who are members of the Professional and Managerial Staff Union (PMSU).
The milestone agreement reflects the shared commitment of management and the Union to strengthening industrial relations, promoting workplace harmony, and advancing the welfare and professional development of staff.
Chairing the ceremony, the Managing Director of CMC, Dr. Wisdom Kofi Dogbey, underscored the critical role unions play in fostering industrial harmony and promoting constructive engagement within organisations. He encouraged the PMSU to continue upholding this responsibility in the interest of both staff and the Company.
Dr. Dogbey reaffirmed management’s commitment to an open-door leadership approach, which welcomes constructive engagement, dialogue, and mutual feedback between management and the Union.He further emphasized that union leadership responsibilities do not absolve executives of their departmental duties, urging all staff to work collaboratively toward the continued success of CMC.
Dr. Dogbey also called on the Union to educate its members on the importance of protecting the integrity and confidentiality of company information, while reaffirming management’s readiness to support initiatives by the Union that enhance staff welfare and promote a productive work environment.
The General Secretary of ICU Ghana, Brother Morgan Ayawine, commended Dr. Dogbey and the CMC management team for their commitment to positive labour relations and for demonstrating a collaborative and union-friendly approach to leadership.
He noted that modern trade unions increasingly pursue partnership-oriented engagement, focusing not only on negotiations but also on supporting management in advancing the long-term growth and sustainability of organisations.
Brother Ayawine expressed the Union’s readiness to support management initiatives that contribute to the progress of the Company, emphasizing the importance of continuous dialogue as the most effective means of resolving workplace concerns.
He also encouraged CMC management to ensure the effective implementation of the provisions of the Collective Agreement in accordance with the Labour Act.
The Deputy Managing Director in charge of Marketing, Dr. Barnett Quaicoo, expressed appreciation to the Union for its cooperation throughout the negotiation process and reaffirmed management’s commitment to maintaining a constructive partnership with the Union for the benefit of the Company and its employees.
Similarly, the Human Resource Manager of CMC, Mrs. Portia Edna Adjei, described the Union as a strategic partner in staff development rather than an opposition body, noting that strong collaboration between management and organised labour contributes significantly to organisational growth and stability.
Speaking on behalf of the Professional and Managerial Staff Union, Brother Sampson Kwaku Amoako, Chairman of PMSU, described the signing of the Collective Agreement as a significant milestone that demonstrates the mutual commitment of management and the Union to strengthening their relationship and enhancing staff welfare.
He further acknowledged the leadership of Dr. Dogbey, noting that the collaborative approach adopted during the negotiation process reflects management’s dedication to sustaining strong labour relations within the Company.
Brother Amoako assured management of the Union’s full support in advancing policies and initiatives that promote staff welfare and contribute to the continued success of the Cocoa Marketing Company.
The signing of the maiden Collective Agreement marks an important step in reinforcing CMC’s commitment to constructive labour relations, employee development, and sustainable organisational growth.
